“Oh, that’s lovely wrist action you’ve got there. Fancy coming into the larder with me and earning yourself five woodbines?”
― Marco Pierre White
With Valentine's Day approaching, we dedicate this episode to… romantic foods.
First we discuss the history and legend of St. Valentine, also exploring another horny-type day, St. George (celebrated in April) and the giving of books and roses. Then we touch on St Sebastian with a side reference to the wonderful Abruzzo dish Arrosticini. (Which have little to do with sex but can function as an awfully good solace in the absence of the former.) I had this while in Abruzzo - amazing and simple. Lastly we discuss San Sebastian in the Basque region of Spain and the Gastronomic Societies there. Check out this video.
Sure, we also talk a bit about about the effects of Romantic Food Ingredients on serotonin and endorphins as well as antioxidants and the affects on the body. Yada yada. But from oysters to lobster to figs to strawberries to pomegranates - it’s all about sex. Here is a list of recipes from Food and Wine.
We also discuss a simple dish called Engagement Chicken by a favorite chef of Vanessa, Nigella Lawson in her How to Eat book. Here is a recipe on Food 52 for Engagement Chicken with Carrot Panzanella
A Happy, Horny Valentines day from us to all!
